Why are headbands so divisive? I think they are a fun, chic, easy accessory but others see them as silly and childish. I remember a man asking me a few years ago if I wasn’t “too old” to be wearing a headband. My answer? No, a*shole.. and neither was CBK!
(Also all the cool it girls are subbed to the It Girl Guide I heard…)
I will concede however that not all headbands are created equal. We are looking for simple, chic, girly, minimal. We are NOT looking for oversized, beaded, puffy. I have even gone so far in my day as to buy Gucci headbands… a few actually. Now I know this is a ridiculous purchase but that is truly how much I love them! Headbands are the perfect it girl accessory! Let’s take a look at the kinds of headbands you should be shopping now and the it girls who made them cool.
BUT- before we move on - I MUST mention where the absolute queen of headbands herself, the queen of all chicness actually, CBK, got her headbands.
The classic CBK headbands we see everywhere are from C.O Bigelow in NYC, still family owned and such a must shop in New York!
Now let’s get into it…
The Big Stretchy Headband
Well hello chic!! This is such a great, easy way to look like you really did something with your hair. These headbands can be found at any drug store for just a few dollars and they can class up any minimal look. This is just a simple black legging and black tee but look how the headband and coiffed hair really elevate the look. This can be recreated in a few minutes with dirty (hallelujah) hair, texture spray and a cheap headband. How could you possibly ask for more?
Shop this slouchy headband here - $12 for a set of two!
This is simply a classic, you can find these anywhere and wear them with anything.
This option also comes in literally every color - shop here
The Matching Textured Headband
Matching your headband to your sweater or top is C-H-I-C! This icy blue headband adds so much to this look, it would be completely bland without it. This is such a great and easy way to look put together, bonus points if the headband and top are the same material. Texture/color blending with an accessory is not only sophisticated but it automatically makes any look appear more expensive and put together. I love collecting different textured headbands just in case the perfect opportunity arises!

The Classic Black headband
I mean she needs no further introduction… there is nothing like a chic little black headband. There are not only endless options, but endless images of it girls rocking their thin black headbands since the 50’s. This is such an ode to it girls past, I simply love it. Any closet item that the harkens back to a time when women were shaping the staple wardrobe for it girls today (an LBD, a great pair of boots, a sexy red lip, the perfect dress pant, a sexy suede fringe jacket, a slouchy black headband) just speaks to my soul in a way I can’t explain. There are just certain pieces that make you feel chic.
Wearing a silk and plastic headband from Amazon 10/10 do not recommend - excruciatingly tight
I just know you want to feel this chic!
I am even fine with white.. just simple!

Above is THEEEEE French girl headband - thank me later!
I could continue writing about the perfection of headbands forever, I truly could. They are in my opinion the most underrated and underrespresented accessory of any it girl! Do you agree?
